Most people notice their wisdom teeth starting to come through between the age of 16 and 25. Some people do not have enough space in their jaw for their wisdom teeth and they become impacted. When a wisdom tooth is impacted, it can become infected and/or damage the tooth in front. In some cases your dentist may prefer removal of wisdom teeth as a precaution to ensure your orthodontic work is not affected.
Before wisdom teeth surgery is carried out, your oral surgeon will discuss what’s involved and any risks or complications you should be aware of. In most cases, wisdom teeth can be removed safely at our Caboolture practice. However, if your wisdom teeth are in a complex position your dentist may recommend you see a wisdom teeth specialist for a second opinion and management.
