Taking your child to the dentist is the best way to prevent problems like tooth decay and it helps both parents and children learn how to maintain a healthy smile for life. We find that many parents are unaware that their children could be having dental treatment at a private dentist for free!
The Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS) was implemented in 2014 and allows eligible children aged 2-17 years to receive $1000 in dental services per two year period. Unfortunately, the scheme has not been well publicised and many parents are unaware that their children are eligible for government funded dental care. The best part of this scheme is that you can go to your private family dentist (so long as they are participating) and have your children’s treatment completed by someone you know and trust. Many practices (like us) choose to bulk-bill the services for eligible children as it is much more convenient for busy parents.
We have recently become aware that the federal government are cutting the Child Dental Benefits Scheme. We were devastated to hear this and truly feel for all children who may now miss out on dental care and education. However, we would like all parents to know that the scheme is not over yet! There is still time to have your kids teeth checked and any treatment they may require completed before the scheme is ended on June 30.
We are now encouraging all patients (new and old) to make an appointment while there is still the option for government funded care. If you are not sure if your child is eligible we are happy to check for you. Please call or email us and we will happily answer your questions and confirm your child’s eligibility.
Have your say and stop the government axing free dental for kids!
